Will Aniimo Be Free? Pricing and In-App Purchases
Aniimo is free to play on PC, PS5, Xbox and mobile. Will Aniimo be free for good, and what do Lumin Crystals cost on each store, plus what stays optional?
Yes — Aniimo is free to play. Steam lists the game with is_free = true and files it under the Free To Play category, and the PlayStation Store lists it as Free with the note "In-game purchases optional". The Microsoft Store shows the same Free price beside its Lumin Crystal add-ons, and the App Store description calls Aniimo a "free-to-play" game, so none of the store fronts we checked charge admission. Everything sold on top of that is optional, and the one number no store publishes is a spending ceiling.

What Aniimo costs on each platform
| Store | What the listing shows | Cost to start |
|---|---|---|
| Steam (PC) | is_free = true, Free To Play category, In-App Purchases category | Free |
| PlayStation Store (PS5) | Free, with "In-game purchases optional" | Free |
| Microsoft Store (Xbox) | Free, sold alongside Lumin Crystal add-ons | Free |
| App Store (iOS, mobile opens September 23, 2026) | Described as "free-to-play", sells in-app items | Free |
Source: the four store listings, checked 2026-09-21. PC, PS5 and Xbox opened on September 16, 2026 and mobile follows on September 23, 2026, so the free price applies to the same launch build on every platform. No listing mentions a paid edition, a subscription or an expiry date for that free price.
Lumin Crystals: the optional paid currency
Lumin Crystals are the virtual currency these stores sell, and the PlayStation Store files them under "Virtual Currency" while the App Store listing sells the same currency through in-app items. What differs is the pack ladder: the same dollar price buys a different number of crystals on each platform, so the tables below are deliberately kept apart. Each table reflects one store listing on 2026-09-21 and is a single source, so check your own storefront before budgeting.
PlayStation 5 (single source — PlayStation Store add-on list)
| Lumin Crystals | Price |
|---|---|
| 66 | $0.99 |
| 330 | $4.99 |
| 1,078 | $14.99 |
| 2,178 | $29.99 |
| 3,608 | $49.99 |
| 7,128 | $99.99 |
Xbox (single source — Microsoft Store add-on list)
| Lumin Crystals | Price |
|---|---|
| 60 | $0.99 |
| 300 | $4.99 |
| 980 | $14.99 |
| 1,980 | $29.99 |
| 3,280 | $49.99 |
| 6,480 | $99.99 |
iOS (single source — App Store listing)
| Lumin Crystals | Price |
|---|---|
| 6,480 (largest tier shown in the listing) | $99.99 |
The mismatch is real rather than a rounding difference: $99.99 buys 7,128 crystals on PlayStation but 6,480 on Xbox and iOS. No listing we captured explains why the ladders differ, and nothing states whether a pack bought on one platform behaves the same on another, so that reconciliation stays to confirm. Read each table as that store's own pricing rather than a cross-platform price list.
Glimmer: the second premium currency
IGN and PC Gamer both describe Glimmer as the premium currency that can be spent in Aniimo's in-game shop, and it is what makes the gift codes worth redeeming. It also arrives for free: the official launch announcement lists Glimmer x200 among the pre-registration milestone rewards, and the official site shows the same 10M to 30M milestone ladder ending in the Sunlit Meadow outfit. Glimmer does not appear as an add-on in the PlayStation or Xbox store lists we captured, so what we can confirm is where it is spent, not a shop price for it.
What else carries a price tag
Currency is not the only thing with a price, and the launch build also sells passes and cosmetics. The table below separates items the stores list from items that only a launch-week hands-on video mentions, because the second group is a single source and should be treated that way. None of them are needed to start playing.
| Item | Where it appears | Price | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lumin Crystal packs | PS Store, Microsoft Store and App Store add-ons | $0.99 to $99.99 | Store listings (single source per store) |
| Aniimo: PlayStation Plus Pack (Essential) | PS Store add-on | $0.00 | PS Store (single source) |
| Collector's Comp. Handbook | App Store in-app purchase item | $19.99 | App Store listing (single source) |
| Free and premium battle pass | In-game | Not published | Launch-week hands-on (single source) |
| Cosmetics for characters and creatures | In-game shop | Not published | Launch-week hands-on (single source) |
| Energy | In-game store | Not published | Launch-week hands-on (single source) |
| Probability Details page | Official site footer | Not applicable | Official site (single source) |
Is anything gated behind payment?
No official statement sets a spending cap, a subscription requirement or a progression gate, and the stores only say that purchases are optional. The launch-week hands-on video we used as a second source says that creator did not need to spend anything and saw nothing locked behind a paywall, but that is one player's experience of one build, so it stays a single source. The practical answer is that Aniimo publishes no figure for what the game costs over time, which is why any total you see quoted elsewhere is to confirm.

Free players versus paying players
| Area | Without paying | With optional purchases |
|---|---|---|
| The game | Free download and play on PC, PS5, Xbox and mobile | No paid edition has been published |
| Creatures | Caught in the open world with Aniipods, traps and timed catches (official store description) | The store add-on lists sell currency, not creatures |
| Premium currency | Glimmer x200 from the pre-registration milestone rewards (official launch announcement) | Lumin Crystal packs, priced per platform |
| Cosmetics | Four free outfits from story quests, Homeland activities and check-ins (official site) | Cosmetic items from the in-game shop (single source) |
| Battle pass | A free track (single source) | A premium track (single source) |
| Launch freebies | A Prismana creature you choose, Aniipod Ultra x2 and outfits (official launch announcement) | Not applicable |
FAQ
- Is Aniimo free to play?
- Yes. Steam lists Aniimo with is_free = true and the PlayStation Store lists it as Free with In-game purchases optional, so there is no admission price on PC, PS5, Xbox or mobile.
- Will Aniimo be free forever?
- Every store listing we checked still shows a Free price after the September 16, 2026 launch, and no paid edition or subscription has been published. No official end date exists either, so treat free-for-good as the current state rather than a promise (to confirm).
- How much do Lumin Crystals cost?
- PlayStation 5 runs from 66 crystals for $0.99 to 7,128 for $99.99, Xbox runs from 60 for $0.99 to 6,480 for $99.99, and the App Store listing shows a 6,480 pack at $99.99. Each ladder is a single store listing, so check your own platform.
- Do you have to pay to finish Aniimo?
- No payment gate or spending cap has been published in the store listings or the official launch announcement, and no official progression threshold exists. A total cost figure is to confirm rather than a fact.
- Can you get the premium currency without paying?
- Yes. The official launch announcement lists Glimmer x200 among the pre-registration milestone rewards, and Glimmer is the premium currency IGN and PC Gamer both describe as spendable in the in-game shop.
